Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama says the Fiji-China relationship is one that has been built on great respect, and genuine kindness that remains constant to this day.
While speaking at the 70th anniversary of the founding of the peoples Republic of China celebrations, Bainimarama says yesterday is a extra special significance day as it also marks 44 years since the establishment of formal diplomatic relationship between Fiji and China which began in 1975.
Bainimarama says more than four decades of the friendship between Fiji and China has never waned with both nations bonded by a common and steady recognition of the mutual benefits of bilateralism.
Bainimarama says the bond between Fiji and China was strengthened when the Chinese President, Xi Jinping made a official state visit to Fiji in 2014.
Meanwhile, the Chinese Ambassador to Fiji Qian Bo acknowledged the Chinese community and its members for their contributions that they have made over the years in promoting the development of Fiji China progress.
Bo also paid tribute to the late Dixon Seeto and his outstanding contribution towards China Fiji relationship and also thanked the government and the people of Fiji for their support towards the Chinese community.
President of the Chinese Association of Fiji, Jenny Seeto says through China’s strong leadership, vision and determination of its people, the country has achieved tremendous growth and influence in the global economy.
She says the continuing friendship and strengthening of relationship between the Fijian and the Chinese Governments demonstrate a genuine desire to ensure that both nations cooperate at all levels and for all engagements.
