Fijian businesses can expect a greater co-operation with the Pakistan business community following the signing on a Memorandum of Understanding between the Fiji Chamber of Commerce and Industry and the Federation of Pakistan Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
While speaking at the signing, Minister for Trade, Faiyaz Koya says this is the first step to growing relations between the two countries.
He says through this MOU both, the Pakistani and Fijian Chamber of Commerce will combine efforts in promoting economic activities as well as identifying opportunities for trade, industry, services, investment whilst safeguarding the interest of the domestic stakeholders, such as the MSMEs and infant industries.
He says the trade between the two countries has been limited, despite there being growth adding that commodities such as machinery, logs and fish have been exported to Pakistan whilst export from Pakistan to Fiji has been approximately $3.8 million.
Fiji Chamber of Commerce President, Doctor Nur Bano Ali says they look forward to working together for trade opportunities between the both countries and take it to another level.
She also confirmed Fiji Development Bank CEO, Saud Minam as the President of the new Fiji Pakistan Business Council.
Speaking via zoom, Federation of Pakistan Chamber of Commerce and Industry President, Irfan Iqbal Sheikh says Fiji and Pakistan still enjoy good relations and he is optimistic the business community of Pakistan will be instrumental in the further improvement and development of bilateral economic and trade relations.
