Fiji Airways from 23rd March to date have safely brought 561 Fijians home.
Fiji Airways Managing Director and CEO Andre Viljoen says they completed another round of evacuation and freight flights yesterday.
Viljoen says they have also evacuated 1157 visitors back to Australia, New Zealand, United States, Singapore, Japan and Samoa.
He adds they continue to work closely with respective Governments and Diplomatic Missions to schedule and operate more evacuation flights in the coming days.
Viljoen further says he is extremely proud of the way their teams stepped up to repatriate citizens and transport essential supplies to and from Fiji adding many members of their team operated these flights knowing full well that they will go into mandatory quarantine upon their return to Fiji.
Fiji Airways has taken nearly 88 tonnes of exports from Fiji since April 3rd
Fiji Airways Managing Director and CEO Andre Viljoen since April 3rd, they have taken nearly 88 tonnes of exports from Fiji.
Viljoen says this include produce like dalo, kava, turmeric, herbs, as well as seafood, garments, mail and other items.
He says freight flights benefit the entire supply chain relying on exports adding these include farmers, fisherfolk, factory workers, producers, exporters, consumers and Governments.
Viljoen says this is why they fly – to help our people and our country.
He adds these flights would also not be possible without the support of a number of Government agencies.
Viljoen further says they acknowledge and appreciate the outstanding assistance from the Fijian Ministry of Health, Department of Civil Aviation, Border Control, as well as the authorities at every airport they operated to.
Breakdown of the exports carried are as follows:
· Fresh Produce & Herbs: 52.2 tonnes
· Turmeric: 17.7 tonnes
· Seafood: 3.3 tonnes
· Kava: 6.6 tonnes
· Consolidated items & chocolate: 8.1 tonnes
