Fiji Airports welcomed its first flight into the newly refurbished Bureta Airport Runway in Levuka this morning.
Fiji Airports CEO, Faiz Khan says this demonstrates the ongoing commitment by Fiji Airports to provide long term benefit for people living in remote areas of Fiji through better connectivity.
Khan says Fiji Airports will continue to develop their network of airports with their team now heading to Lakeba to carry out runway upgrades.
Fiji Airports will carry out runway refurbishments in Lakeba, Kadavu and Labasa over the next six months.
In 2018, Fiji Airports made a cash loss of $18.9 million in the running of its network of airports at Nausori and the outer islands. The cost of the Bureta runway upgrade was $0.5 million.
