The Minister for Defence, National Security and Foreign Affairs, Inia Seruiratu says field hospitals will be quickly established in affected areas to cater for 100 patients the next time a Cyclone hits Fiji.
Speaking at the 61st Annual Scientific Conference of the Fiji Medical Association at the Pearl Resort, Seruiratu says this will provide initial emergency care for injuries and other acute health needs.
He says with the creation of Fiji's Emergency Medical Assistance Team, they have transformed their ability to respond effectively to disaster here in Fiji and in the Pacific region.
Seruiratu says this is a tremendous breakthrough and this was possible through the collaboration of the World Health Organisation and the Fijian Government who gave them the vital tools to ensure that when disaster strikes again, their response is going to be faster and a lot more effective.
