The Solevu or fundraising part of the Methodist Church in Fiji's Festival of Praise and Gift‑giving has been opened by the President of the Methodist Church Reverend Dr. Tevita Banivanua.
The Methodist Church in Fiji's Secretary for Communication Reverend James Bhagwan says their Solevu focus this year is to collect funds to help with their collection levy which is their operating budget.
Reverend Bhagwan says for the previous years the fundraising has been for specific projects.
Reverend Bhagwan says their fundraising does not set a target as each church member has an annual levy of $15 and is collected according to the circuit.
He says the Annual Conference proper or Bose Ko Viti will begin on the 21st of this month and one of the highlights will include the election of a new Church President as Reverend Dr. Tevita Banivanua will conclude his term as President at the end of this year.
Rev Bhagwan says there will also be some Secretariat positions that will become vacant by the end of the year so a replacement or a successor will be elected.
