Boxing promoter Abdul Feroz has been further remanded in custody until 11am tomorrow.
Feroz appeared with his lawyer Mohammed Anwar Khan today for the bail ruling however it was heard in court that the Police prosecutor Feroz Khan was supposed to file a formal affidavit in relation to the defence counsel’s bail application.
Abdul Feroz’s lawyer then said that it has been too long because his client was arrested on the 1st of this month.
While the lawyer was still talking, the accused Feroz started speaking out in court and Magistrate Thushara Rajasinghe then said that any cross conversation between the accused and the lawyer is not allowed in court.
Magistrate Rajasinghe stressed that he will not tolerate this.
The Police prosecutor submitted a letter from the Manager of Peninsula Hotel today that said the alleged offence and incident may affect the tourism sector because Feroz invites boxers from overseas but it is alleged that he does not pay the bills.
The defence counsel will make a final submission through the Court Registry at 3pm today.
Abdul Feroz is remanded in custody and will reappear for his bail ruling tomorrow morning.
Feroz has pleaded not guilty to a charge of making off without payment on the 21st of December last year at the Peninsula Hotel in Suva.
The court heard that a total of $3737.50 was allegedly not paid to the hotel which was the cost of eight rooms.
