The fence installation on the new Rewa Bridge is running behind schedule.
Fiji Roads Authority’s Acting CEO Robert Sen says some of the materials had to be ordered from an overseas supplier to meet the demand of fitting a pedestrian fence across one side of the 680 meter long Rewa Bridge.
Sen says that despite FRA’s best efforts to hurry along the procurement and production, the fencing work has only just commenced.
He says a total of 340 fence panels will be installed on the bridge and the work will take at least four weeks to complete.
Sen says the Fiji Roads Authority has been under immense pressure to get the fences installed and is asking peoples understanding as they work to complete the installation.
Sen adds that the contractor can carry out the work without interruption during the two week school holiday period.
Meanwhile, hazardous concrete slabs on the footpaths of the old Rewa Bridge are being dismantled following the permanent closure of the bridge to pedestrians.
