Newly appointed Minister for Immigration, Viliame Naupoto after touring the department's facility yesterday, says one of the passport printers is currently not working.
Naupoto says this is what is causing the delays in passport processing that often leaves people waiting for hours.
He says the current printer can only print a maximum of 300 passports daily which is limiting their capacity.
Naupoto says the importance of efficiency within the Ministry, including systems and processes will ensure that Fijians receive timely service without long waits.
He highlighted that sometimes, people leverage personal connections to obtain passports faster.
Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka confirmed that there are currently over 7,000 blank passports available in the country.
