Farmer pleads guilty to rape but not to sexual assault

A Tailevu farmer has pleaded guilty to a count of rape of a 9 year old girl however he pleaded not guilty to a count of sexual assault.

It is alleged that the man raped and sexually assaulted the girl in January this year.

However, according to his his lawyer, the count was contradicting instructions that was brought forward.

High Court Judge, Justice Daniel Goundar says the accused needs to understand the consequences of the charges.

The case has been adjourned to the 8th of July.
