A 46-year-old farmer of Savusavu who raped his 17-year-old daughter has been sentenced to 11 years and three months imprisonment.

The incident happened between May and October this year.

The man had pleaded guilty to a count of rape.

The court was told that the man's wife had passed away last year.

The court was told that the girl had put her three brothers to sleep and had gone to her room to sleep.

While she was sleeping, the father who was drunk entered her room and raped her.

The man had threatened her daughter that if she told anyone about the incident and if he is taken to prison, nobody will look after her and her siblings.

High Court Judge, Justice Chamath Morais also noted that it was discovered in December last year that the girl was seven months pregnant.

A non-parole period of eight years and three months has been set.
