Family care leave to be reduced to 3-days

The proposed Employment Relations Amendment Act will include the reintroduction of family care leave.

However, the new bill proposes a reduction to three-days of leave instead of the initial 5 days.

This was highlighted during the public consultation in Taveuni.

This review focuses on providing care for an immediate family member who is incapacitated due to illness, injury, or medical condition.

The proposed review omits the term "household" from the current clause.

A team from the Ministry of Employment will be in the Western Division from tomorrow for a week to inform stakeholders and the public about the proposed amendments to both the Employment Relations Act 2007 and the Work Care Bill 2024.
