Families await help in Saravi

A family of four is stranded on the roof in Saravi Settlement in Nawakai Nadi.

Naushad Ali of Nawakai said that these people are sitting on the roof since 2pm today and waiting for help.

The family of four consists of a seven year old child.

Ali said that they were rescued by army officers today and taken to a double story house where they are sheltering now with 50 other families.
 
Ali is calling on the officials to help rescue the four families sitting on the roof.

Meanwhile, many families are stuck in Koromakawa Nadi and are calling for assistance.

Some people are stuck at the Hibiscus Resort near the Total Service Station at the Nadi back road.

A concerned resident said they have been stuck since this morning and they need immediate assistance.

It has been confirmed that a few people are stuck at the Nadi Temple and are in need of help from the police and the DISMAC.

Speaking to Fijivillage, Raju from Nadi said that his house is close to the temple where he heard people screaming for help from the temple.

Meanwhile, calls have been received from Korobaba, Nadi that some children are stuck in a house with no food and in need of a rescue.

In Ba

A total of 374 people of Ba are taking shelter at various evacuation centers.

The Ba District office has confirmed these are the people who have lost all their belongings after flood waters entered their homes from this morning.
 
The worst hit areas in Ba are Wailailai, Yalalevu, Koronubu, Votua, Matanivara, Moto and Bangladesh.

The five evacuation centers that have been opened in Ba are Ba Sangam College, Votua Catholic School, Vatulaulau Primary school, Khalsa Primary School and Namosau Primary school.

Meanwhile, earlier today, an 80 year old woman, a disabled elderly man and a young woman were rescued from their Yalalevu house.

Ropes were tied between two houses to help them across with neighbours also assisting in moving them to safety.

In Elevuka, Ba, Mohammed Abu Riyaz also rescued a man who was stuck in flood waters for three hours.

Rakiraki update

There is no water in Rakiraki town and the nearby areas and this is due to the burst of the Qalau water pump.

However Water Authority has provided water to the Rakiraki hospital for 19 patients who are currently admitted in the hospital.

Provincial Adminstrator Rakiraki, Sitiveni Tavaga said Police and government officials are monitoring the situation.

Tavaga said rain has started again and the main road to Vaileka town is still flooded.

Meanwhile five families from FSC quarters including 10 adults and 12 children are sheltering inside the Welding shop in Penang Mill.

Four families living in the low lying areas from Qalema settlement have moved into the house of Mateo.

Five families have moved into the Rakiraki Muslim school evacuation center with a total of 31 evacuees.

Meanwhile the Vaileka Methodist Church hall is opened for people who will be affected tonight.

Yaladro flats, Nabuna and Vanua kula areas in Tavua are still under 3 4feet flood waters and continuing rains are expected to make the situation worse.

Special Administrator Tavua Town Council, Arun Prasad said flood waters have not reached Tavua town as yet however people are advised to be cautious at all at times.

Meanwhile Officer in charge, Tavua Police Joseph Lo confirmed their officers are doing rounds at Yaladro flats, Nabuna and Vanuakula areas and evacuating people.

Also Tagitagi, Nabuna, Vanuakula and Natawa bridges are under flood waters and not accessible.

Lo said Tavua District School, Tavua Primary school and Tavua Muslim School have been opened as evacuation centers and people who are being affected by the floods are requested to move in to the nearest evacuation centers.
 
Water tanks have also been placed in five locations in Tavua following water cuts after lunch today.

The district office said water tanks have been placed at BSP Bank, Kavika street off Tavua town, Police station, Tavua district and DO office Tavua.

In Lautoka

Some people are now using the bus shelters to house them from the heavy rain in Lautoka.

This is the confirmation from Robert Ravi Kant who is currently driving around the western division and says that a lot of houses have been badly affected by the flood.

He also said that this flood is worse than the January flood this year.
