Many people who experience bullying turn to their faith communities for comfort, but these communities struggle to keep up with the digital age and do not yet have the necessary tools to offer meaningful support and are not prepared to address cyberbullying effectively.
This concern was raised by the General Secretary for the Pacific Conference of Churches, Reverend James Bhagwan during the Online Safety event 2025.
He says many people, especially younger generations, view digital devices more as entertainment tools than as means of communication which has led to a lack of awareness about the potential harm of online bullying and how it should be addressed.
He further says the first thing we need to do is understand social media and the internet as a tool.
The General Secretary adds that most cyberbullying are targeted attacks.
