Faith-based organizations such as the Methodist Church in Fiji, Shree Sanatan Dharam Pratinidhi Sabha of Fiji, Fiji Muslim League, Fiji Mission of the Seventh Day Adventist, the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Suva, and the Christian Mission Fellowship will now lead the nation in improving lifestyle in Fiji for COVID-19 and Non Communicable Diseases Prevention.
This was highlighted by the Acting Dean for the College of Medicine, Nursing and Health Services Doctor Donald Wilson during the lifestyle improvement in Fiji for covid19 and diabetes prevention technical workshop.
Wilson says COVID-19 has also affected health services, particularly NCDs such as high blood pressure, epilepsy, and diabetes which were not even related to the pandemic.
He says these faith-based organizations will support community members to address these issues as they have a lot of direct connections with the people.
Meanwhile, Ben Salacakau of the Catholic Church of Fiji says the health issues have become a concern for them, therefore, they will roll out a plan to address this issue.
He says they will break the lack of physical activity and poor eating habits by spreading and sharing messages with their members and the people.
