Minister for Foreign Affairs, Defence and National Security Inia Seruiratu
Speaking at the ground‑breaking ceremony for the new $29.8 million Lautoka Police Station today, Seruiratu says the attitude of those who service the community must also change.
He says Suva and Lautoka will have Police Stations that will be elevated to Metropolitan Stations due to their status of having high economic activities which at times can draw hundreds of thousands of people to their areas of operations.
He says Lautoka being an important driver of Fiji’s economic growth requires a Fiji Police Force that is responsive and is able to deliver services that will build a better and more secure Lautoka.
Seruiratu says government has invested millions of dollars into this project and like any investment there is an expectation for a return on these investments particularly so from the people of Fiji.
The Minister says for years, the Fiji Police Force had to work with limited resources and manpower and the ground‑breaking ceremony today of a new Police Station in Lautoka is a testament of government’s commitment in trying to make Fiji a safer place to live in.
Seruiratu says this is shown by the increased investment from international and local businesses.
