In a bid to assist women and children who are survivors of rape, child sexual abuse, domestic violence and sexual harassment, the Fiji Women’s Crisis Centre has began a four-week Regional Training Program today with various regional organizations.
Various representatives from Vanuatu, Solomon Islands, Cook Islands, Nauru, Tuvalu, Samoa, and Fiji were present at the Yatu Lau Hotel for this regional training.
The Pacific Community’s Principal Strategic Lead – Women and Girls Mereseini Rakuita says they find themselves in pressing times where gender-based violence continues to rise in our region and in Fiji, women continue to die from domestic violence and other forms of abuse.
She says the delegates have a responsibility to look after victims of violence in the various regions and they should take everything they learn from the training and practice it in their countries.
Rakuita says during these critical times, what remains central is the need to address gender equality, which is important because thousands of victims of abuse are out there suffering in silence.
She reiterates the need for participants to be better informed and better equipped with tools for encountering the problems that people face from being victims of violence and abuse.
The training is organised by the FWCC and will be conducted until the 23rd of August.
