The Fiji Women’s Crisis Centre has helped a total of 16 rape victims as part of their advocacy program from January to July this year.
Centre Coordinator Shamima Ali says they offer counselling and advocacy at police stations to get the victims back to where they belong.
Ali says in most cases it’s always a blame game for the poor victims of rape.
She says women and girls should not be blamed for the way they dress and behave as they are not even safe in their homes.
Ali says they have been working more with police and are getting referrals from the health sector.
