FRIEND Fiji Founder, Sashi Kiran.

FRIEND Fiji Founder, Sashi Kiran has acknowledged women who have been hit the hardest because of the COVID-19 pandemic in the Western Division and are holding their families together everyday.

She says there are women who have access to money in their FNPF but there are many struggling domestic workers and women who never had FNPF.

While speaking during the International Women’s Day celebration organised by DIVA for Equality at Shirley Park, Kiran says they have been able to provide food to the struggling families.

She has also highlighted that there are also disabled women who are hosting about 12 other people in their homes and the CSO Alliance has been trying to find a home for them.

Kiran has also acknowledged women in leadership in a COVID-19 world where they have seen publicly people like Doctor Alisha Sahukhan who has been preparing for COVID-19 way before it hit us.

She says there are also women like the Divisional Medical Officer Western, Doctor Susana Nakalevu.

Kiran says Dr. Nakalevu and her COVID-19 task force, of which 70% are women are holding the fort and controlling the spread of the virus.

She has also thanked women in civil society that includes Noelene Nabulivou from DIVA for Equality, Shamima Ali from Fiji Women’s Crisis Centre, Nalini Singh from Fiji Women’s Rights Movement and the entire CSO Alliance that have come together in response to COVID-19.
