The Fiji Roads Authority will begin work on the Ellington Wharf in Rakiraki today.
CEO, Jonathan Moore says they have completed their assessments and will begin temporary works to ensure accessibility with a plan being developed for a long term solution.
Moore says their assessments indicate that a considerable amount of damage has been caused to the wharf when ships collide with the ramp whilst berthing.
He says the work on the wharf will improve safety of all users.
Moore says they are urging shipping companies to improve their mooring practice to avoid further damages to their assets.
The works on the wharf is expected to be completed by next Friday.
