The Fiji Roads Authority confirms that work on the landslide prone Veisari pass on Queens Highway will begin in May this year.
The area in question has had numerous landslides during heavy rain.
Fijivillage has raised concerns that landslides may unfortunately result in death someday.
FRA says it is holding further major work until the end of the wet season.
FRA CEO Jonathan Moore has told us that the scope of works will include stabilising the ground area and cutting the slope to make it shallow.
Moore explains that the slope will be cut to create benches, which will have a slope followed by a flat area followed by a slope. He says the original hill profile will be cut back to give an overall more stable face for the hill.
He says if drainage is needed, they will install gravel drains or pipes to take the water away from the inside of the hill before the water pressure in the soil can build up and cause another slip.
Moore says the final stage of the stabilization is planting grass on the slope and benches to further stabilize the surface of the hill.
It is not known when the project will be completed.
