The Fiji Roads Authority, Land Transport Authority and the Road Haulage Association has today signed a Memorandum of Understanding to assist each other in dealing with heavy loaded trucks and the protection of our newly built roads.
During the signing today, FRA CEO John Hutchinson says the plan is to save costs in building roads around the country.
Hutchinson adds that they want to maintain the roads that are designed for 20 to 25 years.
With the increase in the number of heavy loaded trucks, the FRA believes this has been the leading cause of road destruction in Fiji.
Meanwhile Land Transport Authority’s Acting Chief Executive Officer Aptinko Vaurasi says they have been having consultations with various operators to see that they comply with the new rules.
The objective of the MOU is to encourage the promotion of mutual cooperation and assist each other in the provision of imposing a legally recognized weight as agreed to by the operators and the authorities.
