The Fiji National University will open four new facilities this year.
While speaking at the Fiji National University's 10th anniversary celebration at the Grand Pacific Hotel last night, Vice Chancellor, Professor Nigel Healey says the four major new facilities include the new Labasa campus worth $40 million and a four storey College of Business,Hospitality and Tourism studies building at Nasinu Campus worth $30 million.
Professor Healey says the third new facility that will be opened is a three storey teaching facility at Fiji Maritime Academy which will support the new Bachelor of Nautical Science programme students.
He says the Bachelor of Nautical Science programme will train ship captains and master mariners.
Professor Healey says the fourth facility is a Multi-Purpose Gymnasium and Sports Complex worth $8.5 million that will be opened at the Nasinu campus.
He says this complex is part of the University's wider drive to address the scourge of NCDs and help in changing the lifestyles of its staff and students by making recreational sports and exercise part of their normal routine.
He adds that the other measures that are in place to support this drive are free annual medical checkups and insurance for all staffs and serving only healthy food options on campus.
Professor Healey says this year the first batch of PhD students will graduate from the University which includes the first group of veterinary science graduates.
