Fiji National University has achieved a landmark victory, winning the 2024 Inter-Tertiary Moot Competition for the first time in its 14-year history.
FNU says the team, consisting of students Talei Karavaki, Arnold Chanel, and Peter Racolo, displayed exceptional advocacy skills, guided by Head of School Law Ana Rokomokoti and Assistant Lecturer Milika Ligabalavu.
They say the team's success was further bolstered by the diligent research efforts of Timoci Mocebalavu, Setaita Taikveikata, Fane Draunibaka, and Kushal Sharma.
Team member Talei Karavaki highlighted the intense nature of the competition, noting how the team used the feedback and questioning from judges to strengthen their case in subsequent rounds is remarkable.
The FNU team was honoured with a traditional salusalu ceremony from the chiefly island of Bau, and a celebratory dinner hosted by the Vice-Chancellor is planned to further recognize their achievement.
FNU Vice-Chancellor, Professor Unaisi Nabobo-Baba, personally congratulated the team, expressing immense pride in their success.
Professor Nabobo-Baba says USP is 60 years old and they are are about 14 years old, and the school is three years old and have left a strong statement that the national university is going to grow and do that strong while underscoring the symbolic importance of FNU's win against older and more established institutions like USP.
