As Fiji National University students await a decision from the government on the increase in hostel fees, the Fiji Higher Education Commission will meet with key stakeholders to discuss the matter.

This has been confirmed by Commission Chair Steve Chand, who says a decision is expected tomorrow.

Key stakeholders expected to attend the meeting include FNU, the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Finance, the Tertiary Scholarships and Loans Service, and the Commission.

Meanwhile, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Finance, Professor Biman Prasad, has called on FNU to postpone the hostel fee increase until the next budget, when the government will evaluate whether additional allowances are needed due to the rise in hostel fees and other student expenses.

He says FNU made this decision unilaterally, without informing the Ministry of Finance or the Ministry of Education.
