The Fiji National University is currently conducting special internships to prepare graduate vets for the qualifying examinations by the Ministry of Agriculture and will continue with the training to prepare more recent graduates for registration.

They say they will also ensure that graduates are prepared for the registration examination.

This was highlighted by the FNU when questioned by fijivillage News on when will FNU get these graduates registered and why the university keeps enrolling students in the vet courses if graduates are not registered and recognized.

FNU says they have held meetings with the Ministry of Agriculture since 2018, specifically to discuss the registration of FNU graduates, and will soon be in a position to test and register the graduates.

The University says they have also proposed an establishment of a Fiji Veterinary Council with the Ministry of Agriculture that will bring all stakeholders under one umbrella to discuss veterinary issues and will be responsible for providing recommendations for veterinary training and registration of vets.

They further say that FNU does not charge fees for any refresher course, as it is funded by the World Organization for Animal Health.

They also say that the veterinary degree program will be phased out in 2026.
