Good news for the students and staff of the Fiji National University’s Samabula Derrick Campus as they can now connect to the free WiFi hotspot that was launched today at the university.
While speaking at the launch, Minister for Economy Aiyaz Sayed Khaiyum says that this is the first of the FNU campuses to be connected to the free WiFi hotspot with 23 other campuses to be connected in the coming weeks.
He adds that under the ‘digitalFIJI’ initiative led by Walesi, government is funding Walesi to work with FNU to install high speed WiFi across all campuses and centres.
FNU Vice Chancellor Professor Nigel Healey says in an era of expanding digital technology, the study skills of students will be enhanced by using a wireless WiFi connection to the internet.
Four key campuses that are being targeted to come online in the first stage include Derrick in Samabula, Nasinu, Nadi and Natabua.
Meanwhile, $40 million has been allocated in the 2018/2019 National Budget to the ICT sector for increased speed in public WiFi hot spots in Fiji.
This allocation will also allow for the installation of free high speed WiFi hot spots for all FNU campuses in Fiji.
