The Fiji Medical Association is looking at opening up a mentorship program where younger doctors can link up with more senior and experienced doctors to communicate better with each other and not act in silos.
Fiji Medical Association Secretary Doctor Alipate Vakamocea has highlighted that this type of communication is an avenue that doctors are now using to help address suicide that was an emerging problem within the medical fraternity.
He has highlighted that two doctors have committed suicide in the last two years while four doctors have attempted suicide in the last two years.
Dr Vakamocea says since first addressing the issue at the Fiji Medical Association Conference last year, a lot of other programs for doctors is being done to better help those who maybe struggling within the medical fraternity.
