Supervisor of Elections, Mohammed Saneem says the Fijian Elections Office will be conducting an evaluation on why 178,000 registered voters did not vote in the 2018 general elections however he says all measures were taken to get the voters to vote.
Saneem says during the election period, the Electoral Commission added another 50 polling stations which should have catered for all the people.
While answering questions raised by SODELPA MP Mosese Bulitavu, Saneem said they did not only increase the number of polling stations but their media team also had promoted the election days much more than they did in 2014.
Saneem says voting is also not compulsory so they cannot force people to vote.
He also says that it is a misconception from Bulitavu to say that 12,000 votes were not counted.
Saneem further states that they will be reviewing the date of campaigns by political parties so that people can know when a party is campaigning.
