Education is the utmost key to come out of poverty.

That is the aim of the Foundation of the Education of Needy Children in Fiji as they look at providing educational assistance to more than one thousand students this year.

According to the organization, people living in poverty make up around 40 percent of the country's total population.

Program Coordinator Ashna Shaleen said they have received overwhelming amount of applications from the Northern, Western and Central divisions.

Shaleen said they receive funding from cooperate organizations, individuals and Government, however they would like to see more assistance coming in for the needy children.
