The Fijian Competition and Consumer Commission is alerting members of the public that a new scam is circulating via text messages, impersonating Post Fiji where the message is not authentic.
Public members are strongly advised not to click on the link as this particular scam is designed to deceive recipients into providing personal information under the guise of correcting address details for package delivery.
Acting Prime Minister and Minister of Trade, Co-operatives, Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises and Communications Manoa Kamikamica emphasised the need for vigilance among Fijians as scammers are becoming increasingly sophisticated in their tactics, making it very challenging for ordinary citizens to differentiate between legitimate and fraudulent messages.
Kamikamica says all Fijians must remain vigilant and skeptical of unsolicited messages, particularly those that ask for personal information as the message includes a link, which directs users to a fraudulent website designed to steal personal information.
FCCC CEO, Joel Abraham warned that the sophisticated nature of the scam could make it more likely for Fijians to fall prey to it and the scam is particularly concerning because it mimics the communication style of legitimate businesses, making it very convincing.
The CEO is urging all consumers to be cautious and verify the authenticity of such messages and if they receive any message that seems suspicious, contact the company using the contact information on their official website.
