The Fijian Competition and Consumer Commission have signed a voluntary compliance Framework agreement with Kasabias Pte Limited as part of an ongoing initiative to help businesses to better comply with the FCCC Act 2010.
The Voluntary Compliance Framework was introduced by FCCC last year after they noted they had collected $400,000 in fines and compliance levels were at only 55% during the 2016/2017 financial year.
FCCC CEO Joel Abraham says in the past a lot of FCCC Act 2010 violations were simply because a trader did not properly understand what the law required of them.
Abraham says while this is not a defence in the eyes of the law, they believe that these agreements will help minimize misunderstandings.
He says now they can establish an agreed-upon working relationship based upon shared responsibility for better trade and consumer practices.
