The Fijian Competition and Consumer Commission is continuing their inspections and has issued 41 Public Health Infringement Notices across Fiji while 62 other cases are under investigation.
Of the 41 notices issued, 39 are breaches by businesses of regulations requiring employees and customers to wear face coverings in order to enter premises, and 2 of these were issued to individuals for – again – failure to wear face coverings in a public place.
CEO Joel Abraham says businesses must ensure that their customers wear face coverings at all times within their premises, practise physical distancing, and have the careFIJI app installed and active on their smartphones before entering the premises.
He further says these cannot be taken lightly – and if you are not following COVID-safe protocols and regulations, you are actively endangering the lives of your fellow Fijians.
Abraham adds they will issue on-spot penalties and fines to those who are found breaching Public Health Regulations.
He highlighted that the increasing numbers of locally transmitted COVID-19 cases serve as a sober reminder of how quickly the virus can spread and disrupt businesses and affect livelihoods.
Abraham also says from a consumer welfare perspective, containing COVID-19 is not only about the health and well-being of Fijians but there is a direct correlation between escalating global food prices and supply chain disruptions caused by COVID-19.
