The Federal Bureau of Investigations is currently training members of the Fiji Police Force on interviewing and advance interviewing techniques.
FBI Legal Attache Henry Gittleman said for police officers, knowing and understanding how to conduct interviews is a requirement.
According to Gittleman this is because officers need to know how to talk and interview any person they deal with.
Meanwhile Minister of Defence, National Security and Immigration Joketani Cokanasiga who opened the workshop said teaching officers and investigators how to interview, both suspect and witnesses is an area that has been heavily overlooked in the development of police training over the years.
Cokanasiga added most often these critical skills have been left to individuals to learn by observing and imitating more senior officers.
The workshop will end this Friday.
