The Fijian Broadcasting Corporation will have a 40% reduction in their Public Service Broadcast Fund which is provided through taxpayers’ funds.

This has been highlighted by the FBC Board Chair Ajay Bhai Amrit during the FBC press conference with the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Finance Professor Biman Prasad.

Amrit says this is after a detailed discussion with FBC and the Ministry of Finance taking into account the current government’s objectives and ensuring that public funds are effectively used.

He also says the 40% reduction will not affect their workers and services.

The Board Chair says they will certainly be able to work within the allocated budget through reducing their expenditure and eliminating excessive expenditure such as executive luxury cars, wasteful and inefficient expenditure.

He says they have already worked on these figures and are comfortable with it.

Meanwhile, Professor Prasad says $10.4 million has been allocated for the Public Service Broadcast grant from which $6.2 million will be allocated to FBC.
