Eye care health is neglected in the Pacific countries and we are trying to address this through clinical expertise to accelerate accessible and quality eye care across the region.
This was highlighted by the Pacific Eye Care Society (PacEYES) President Dr Elenoa Matoto-Raikabakaba this morning during the PacEYES Health Conference.
Matoto-Raikabakaba says the purpose of 20th Anniversary Conference is to celebrate success and discuss the challenges in the eye health sector and expand their capacity.
PacEYES is a professional body that provides support to the regional workforce, consisting of more than 300 doctors, nurses, and technicians, including ongoing professional development, alongside partners such as the Fred Hollows Foundation NZ.
She says the two-day conference involves eye health leaders to engage in eye care research and sharing specialist knowledge that will strengthen the eye health system.
She further says Pacific eye health leadership is critical for addressing significant impact of vision loss on economic development caused by diabetes.
