Expect increased Police presence at Suva Bus Stand during peak hours

The Suva City Council has met with the Fiji Police Force to ensure that brawls between students from different schools can be avoided at the Suva Bus Stand by having an increased Police presence during peak hours.

The SCC has requested officers from Totogo Police Station to patrol the Suva Bus Stand during peak hours and have also raised major concerns such as cases of grab and run.

In recent days police officers had to send students home because they gathered in large numbers at the Suva Bus Stand where heated exchanges were made between students of different schools.

Police say the situation could have gotten worse and turned into a brawl, however Police and other stakeholders stepped in and sent the students home.

Spokesperson, Ana Naisoro says police officers have also been visiting school heads and requesting assistance in addressing the issue with students before it gets out of control.

Police are also requesting parents, guardians and teachers to talk to students about the consequences of getting involved in fights and brawls following two incidents in Suva.
