As we are heading into the cyclone season, the Fiji Red Cross Society together with the United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction will be working together to focus on enhancing disaster resilience in Fiji and also in the Pacific region.
UNDRR Special Representative Secretary General, Mami Mizutori says it is important for the Red Cross Society and any other government organisation to raise awareness in the nation on the importance of being aware of natural disasters and the risk they are surrounded by.
Mizutori says people need to know how to react before any disaster strikes and what they need to do.
Director General of Fiji Red Cross Society, Ragigia Dawai says empowering communities on disaster risks is not just imparting them knowledge on how to get prepared for any disaster but also proactive in facing disasters.
Dawai says it is committed to driving community-driven initiatives, ensuring the active participation and ownership of local communities in disaster resilience efforts.
She adds the Fiji Red Cross Society is a leading humanitarian organization dedicated to assisting communities affected by disasters.
