“We need to adapt the culture of open reading”.
While delivering his speech at the opening of the International Literacy Day at Sukuna Park this morning, Education Minister Mahendra Reddy says there is a deficit culture of readings in Fiji.
Reddy says parents and teachers should encourage students to read and to know the aspect of reading.
The International Literacy Day is celebrated around the globe each year on September 8th and the theme this year is Literacy and Sustainable Society.
Meanwhile, Fiji Patron Mary Bainimarama also hand over the second distribution of books to the Ministry of Education Read to Lead which includes 250 books at different reading levels, teaching resources, a CD‑ROM, activity guides and lesson plans for teachers.
Bainimarama says this books is only prioritize to those primary schools that have the least resources.
