Minister for Economy Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum and Fiji Sun Publisher and CEO Peter Lomas.

Minister for Economy Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum says they do not trust the election polls done by Fiji Sun who are just dialling people up and have no way of verifying who they actually are while Fiji Sun Publisher and CEO Peter Lomas says their poll methodology was developed by an expert and it has been proven to be accurate.

Sayed-Khaiyum made the comments when questioned about the polls published by Fiji Sun last week which showed Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama and People's Alliance Leader Sitiveni Rabuka being neck and neck in the polls.

Sayed-Khaiyum says the polls done by Fiji Sun are not reliable as the most reliable polls are done face to face.

He says doing phone polls is not an indication of the accuracy of the spread of the population that you would want.

Sayed-Khaiyum says Fiji Sun can continue with the polls but they are not placing much credibility on it.

He adds they are taking these polls with a pinch of salt.

While responding to the comments made by the Attorney General, Fiji Sun Publisher Peter Lomas says even one of their most vocal and regular critics has grudgingly admitted that the polls are accurate.

He says polls are always open for criticism and they will be looking at what Sayed-Khaiyum has said in response to a probably planted question at the press conference.
