Many elderly Fijians in the Lami and the Suva area have been overwhelmed by how they were assisted when they cast their vote at the Navesi Primary School in Delainavesi.

67-year-old Fotuwaika Yavala of Delainavesi says elderly members have been assisted by Fijian Elections Office staff and were given the chance to vote first ahead of all the people that queued in the line.

Yavala says they were looking forward to today and the result that the election will bring for our country.

He says the upper Delainavesi community gathered in numbers at the Navesi Primary School this morning to cast their vote and most of them have been at the gates of the polling station as early as 6am.

Meanwhile, 75-year-old Mohammed Shafeek says he is very happy to have gone and voted peacefully.

The Seaqaqa resident says it only took him about three minutes to come and vote.

Shafeek says he is quite sick so he is glad he was allowed to vote ahead of anyone else.

He is urging everyone to come out in numbers and vote.
