Eid is a time for family, friends, loved ones, and the community to honor the love that our sisters and brothers of the Islamic faith share with their communities and the world.
These were the words of FijiFirst Leader, Voreqe Bainimarama and his wife Mary as they extend their warmest greetings and best wishes to every Fijian celebrating Eid-Ul-Fitr.
Bainimarama says wherever you may be, we hope you have a special and joyous time with friends and family.
He says as a united people, we take great pride in our multiculturalism on this day and every day.
The former Prime Minister says together, as a country, we welcomed Easter a week ago; we celebrated Holi last week, and today we celebrate Eid.
He says being able to do this with respect, tolerance, and understanding is what makes our country so unique in a world that is currently so divided.
Bainimarama says his Christian faith teaches him that it is his duty to do all he can to ensure that this remains the bedrock of a united country, now and always.
He says sadly, some are not able to celebrate Eid as they live under the terrible specter of war.
Let us all take time today to reflect on the unacceptable and heartbreaking suffering of the people of Gaza and pray for permanent peace.
