Minister for Agriculture, Rural and Maritime Development Inia Seruiratu has stressed that effective transition towards sustainable development requires a common understanding and better dialogue within and across sectors.
While Speaking at the Symposium on Sustainable Agriculture and Community Resiliency, Seruiratu says that this involves all stakeholders, including the private sector, civil society, academia and research institutions, and developing partnerships at different levels.
Seruiratu says that shared goals and principles are a powerful entry point for discussion amongst different stakeholders.
He says that basis for dialogue and governance arrangements needed for sustainable agriculture development includes improving efficiency in the use of resources, conserving, protecting and enhancing natural ecosystems.
Seruiratu says implementing sustainable agriculture is central to achieving not only food and nutrition security for all, but also help in addressing global challenges.
He says is a key component to mitigate the impacts of climate change, build resilience against crises and natural disasters, achieve healthier food systems, eradicate extreme poverty and hunger, and to sustain natural resources.
Seruiratu has also encourage the people of Nadogoloa, Delaiyadua, Verevere and Nayavutoka in Ra Province, Nacereyaga, Naravuka, Nasigasiga and Nadoiviri in Macuata Province in Vanua Levu to use this forum as means to discuss and enhance sustainable agriculture for resilience.
