The Education Ministry says it is still working on filling the teacher vacancies in schools in all divisions.
This is after year one students of Saraswati Primary School were left unattended last Monday as there is a shortage of two teachers in the school.
The headteacher of Saraswati Primary, Ramesh Chand says the school management is working with the Education Ministry and are making necessary arrangements to fill the two vacancies.
The Ministry says the shortage of teachers in schools is not due to teachers not signing their new contracts.
When questioned on how many vacancies are yet to be filled by the Education Ministry, it says they cannot provide the numbers.
The Ministry says vacancies in schools still exist due to teacher transfers, retirement of teachers, resignations or demise of teachers.
