More than hundred people took advantage of Cathay General Hospital from Taiwan medical team’s visit at the Labasa Hospital last week.
The team which consisted of three doctors, two nurses and two coordinators conducted a 5-day clinic which included eleven ENT operations which looks into a persons ear, nose and throat.
The Taipei Trade Office representative in Fiji, Jessica Lee says they are looking at expanding their area of specialities in the future and perhaps visiting other areas apart from the Labasa Hospital.
She says the main reason for this visit is that Taiwan wants to share its skills and technologies in the medical field with those who need it.
Lee also says that people from nearby islands and even from Viti Levu visited them because there are only two ENT specialists in Fiji.
The medical team visits Fiji twice every year and the expenditure for one visit is almost $300,000 which includes providing medication and medical equipment.
The team leaves for Taiwan tomorrow.
