Energy Fiji Limited will soon begin major electricity grid extension works along the Sawani – Waitolu – Viria corridor that will provide power supply to the new raw water intake and pumping station in Viria, Naitasiri.

EFL CEO, Hasmukh Patel says as a result of this work, people will experience planned interruptions in power supply during the construction period which will be from August 2021 to May 2022.

Patel says the new 33,000 Volts sub-transmission power line will be stretching about 17km from the existing zone substation at Sawani, Nausori.

He says this will follow the access road from Waila Water Treatment Plant to Princes Road, up to the junction of Sawani-Serea Road and then follow the Sawani-Serea Road up to the new zone substation at Waitolu, Naitasiri.

The CEO further says the safety of personnel working on these lines and the public is paramount which is why majority of the construction works will only be undertaken during the day.

The new power line will pre-dominantly be overhead and carried on 218 – 17 metre long hardwood poles, which will be planted along the Princes Road and Sawani – Serea Road. Sections of the power lines will also be underground.
