The Biosecurity Authority of Fiji has begun issuing electronic Phytosanitary certification for all commercial exports of plants and plant products from Fiji to overseas export market destinations.
Biosecurity Authority Executive Chairman, Xavier Khan says the introduction of the e-phytosanitary certificates is in accordance with the Authority’s compliance to international standards and adherence to best international practices.
Khan says the enhanced security features inbuilt in the system will prevent any tampering, forging or amending of the e-certificates.
He adds that with the use of database, there will be improved efficiency and accuracy in certification while lessening errors.
Meanwhile the Authority will also include Zoo-sanitary e-certification and also set up a 24/7 e-certification processing centre in Biosecurity Authority HQ for centralised processing while the district station levels will print and distribute the e-certificates.
