The owners of Vuda Marina Fiji stress that the recent seizure of drugs did not occur at Vuda Marina and did not involve anyone from the Marina.
The owners say this report of the incident occurring near the Marina has caused much anguish to the staff and management of their establishment.
They say the Marina prides itself in providing professional marine services, food and beverages and a clean and safe facility.
The owners also say that the Marina has signed a Memorandum of Agreement with various border control agencies to ensure that the arrival and departure of vessels occur within all aspects of the law to ensure that Fiji is a safe destination for both tourists and locals alike.
They say all vessels are profiled by the relevant authorities prior to their arrival into the country and if there are any question marks about the integrity of the vessel and its purpose of being in Fiji, the vessel is thoroughly searched.
To date, no vessel at Vuda Marina has been found to contain illegal substances.
Vuda Marina says the yachting industry is a growing tourism niche market which contributes significantly to the local economy.
The owners say the average length of stay for a yacht is 180 days with an average spend of close to $35,000 per stay.
They say the industry injects at least $35 million a year into the economy and directly and indirectly employs thousands of people.
The owners say having such incidents incorrectly associated with the yachting industry is harmful and unnecessary.
