From crossing the same river 18 times twice a week to reach school during his Primary School education at Nakurukuruvakatini Primary School, Inoke Qio Droya from Nasava Village in Naitasiri overcame those struggles to be the first from his village to graduate with a Master in Development Studies by Research at the University of the South Pacific.
The story of the 26-year-old is relatable to most people coming from rural settings in trying to make a name for themselves in the developed world.
While speaking to fijivillage News, Droya says living through challenges is a precious moment for him because it defines who we are and how we can navigate to success.
Droya says looking back at his past, he was nurtured in a good way where he was taught by his parents to learn the hard way.
He says the transition from primary to secondary school until tertiary did not affect him negatively but it moulded him to become a better person in life.
Droya dedicated his achievement to his parents for their sacrifice and dedication towards his studies over the past six years. He is currently working as an intern in the Ministry of Social Protection at the Social Welfare Research Unit.
He is encouraging children and youths to always respect their parents and those who are older than them and also discipline in study is the key that opens the door to success.
