Several residential and farming areas within a few kilometres of Navua Town now have improved water channels alongside their community roads to mitigate the effects of flooding.
Fiji Roads Authority contractors Fulton Hogan Hiways completed work along Sadro Road, Namelimeli and Kororere roads, JN Jokhan Primary School Road and Tokotoko back road.
Fulton Hogan Hiways Taunovo Depot Supervisor, Remesio Naqoro says that the work, which involved clearing overgrown vegetation and silt from the water channels, was carried out in response to requests from residents living along these roads for additional maintenance work on the roadside drains within their area.
Naqoro says these areas are prone to flooding especially during excessive rainfall.
He says that the clearing of the drains along these roads will help improve the flow of water through the network of waterways, and alleviate some of the overflow often experienced by residents in the area.
